Costs
What is the Workshop fee? The fee for the 2010 workshop will be $700 Canadian per person, which includes all artistic costs, including coaching, rehearsals and masterclasses. A deposit of $350 is due within 10 days of our making the offer of a role, with the balance due on the first day of the workshop.
Why so little? First of all, because the workshop has such a tight focus (the preparation of a complete opera in a really short time), we can keep down our venue and staff costs. And, secondly, we don’t believe artistic education should cost a fortune. With HSOW you can add a whole role from standard repertoire to your resume, hone your skills (or learn new ones), work with a great group of people, and do it all for relatively little money. You also get to visit Halifax, which is a lovely, small city.
What about accommodation in Halifax?
Accommodation is not covered by the workshop fee. If you need a place to stay in Halifax, we recommend first checking out sites for sublets. Even though you’d only be subletting for a month, there are often people who are happy to get even a month’s subletting over the summer. Here are some we found recently:
- Halifax Kijiji
- Places 4 Students .com
- Saint Mary’s University Off Campus Housing
- Halifax sublets and temporary housing on craigslist
Or, if you prefer, you can try the summer residences at Dalhousie University which offer single rooms from $265 a week for non students down to $172 a week for students (with ID) Or save even more by sharing a room with another participant!
