Halifax Summer Opera Workshop

2. Complete an audition, either in-person or via CD/DVD or online

1. APPLICATION FORM (all participants must submit this — there is no fee for applying) The application form will give us information about your audition preferences, and we’ll contact you to schedule or confirm your audition, if requested.

2a. IN-PERSON AUDITIONS

LONDON, ON: Friday, February 26, New St. James Presbyterian Church (280 Oxford Street East), Sanctuary, 12 noon to 6 pm

TORONTO, ON: Saturday, February 27, Bloor Street United, (300 Bloor Street West, two blocks east of Spadina), Upper Club Room (2nd floor), 11 am to 6 pm

HALIFAX, NS: Saturday, March 13, Maritime Conservatory of the Performing Arts (6199 Chebucto Road), Studio 4, 1 – 5 pm

You must arrange for your own accompanist for all auditions. Please bring your headshot and bio/resume. For the audition, we’ll ask you to prepare three arias, as follows:

1. Ideally one should be an aria for the character for which you wish to be considered. This should be in the original language. Or pick an appropriate (language/style/voice type) substitute.  For example, if you don’t have a Handel aria, pick something in Italian that shows off your diction and style.
2. An aria or song in English (if you’re auditioning for Susannah, this can count as your English aria)
3. Any other song or aria that really shows off your personality and voice.

2b. RECORDED AUDITIONS

If you know you’ll be applying by CD/DVD, you’re welcome to send your application along any time. Deadline for recorded auditions is postmarked March 9, 2010.

Here’s what to include:
CD/DVD with three selections as for Live auditions, above.
Send along a covering letter, and a headshot, bio/resume, and any supporting material (reviews, letters of recommendation, etc.). If you have a video, that’s a help too, but it’s not essential.
