For the audition, we’ll ask you to prepare three selections, as follows:
If you don’t have any opera repertoire whatsoever, and are just getting started in this genre, we’re happy to listen to whatever you can bring. Musical theatre is just fine by us, as are art songs, if you’ve got nothing operatic. If the opera you want to be cast in is in a foreign language, do try to bring us something in that language. Most importantly, we want to see you and what you bring to your pieces.
HSOW is open to everyone, no matter citizenship or location. Every distance application is reviewed, and we cast quite a few people from distance applications, so rest assured that it’s worthwhile applying this way.
Here’s what to include: CD/DVD with three selections as for Live auditions, above. Send along a covering letter, and a headshot, bio/resume, and any supporting material (reviews, letters of recommendation, etc.). If you have a video, that’s a help too, but it’s not essential.
If you are submitting your package via mail, please send it to: Halifax Summer Opera Workshop PO Box 1819 Lunenburg, NS B0J 2C0 (for couriers, our street address is 177 York Street, Lunenburg, NS, B0J 2C0). Deadline for mailed packages is postmarked November 10, 2012.
We also accept packages submitted electronically. After you fill in and submit the application form, you’ll be given information on how to upload your files to us (you can also include links to online content at this time, such as YouTube videos). If you misplace this upload information, please email Marja and she’ll send it to you again. Deadline for electronic uploads is November 30, 2012.
For mailed or uploaded packages, letters of recommendation can either be included or emailed to Nina, as long as they’re marked clearly with your name.
